What are ENERGY STAR® qualified new homes?

Since 2001, Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Office of Energy Efficiency has promoted the international ENERGY STAR® symbol in Canada and monitored its use.

In 2005, NRCan expanded the ENERGY STAR® Initiative in Canada to include energy-efficient new homes being built in Ontario. ENERGY STAR® qualified new homes are approximately 30 to 40 percent more energy efficient than those built to minimum Ontario Building Code standards. The increased efficiency of these homes translates into significantly reduced energy costs for homeowners.

  • High Efficiency Furnace with ECM blower:This provides an 80% savings in electrical consumption, generates less noise and allows for 10-15% higher air delivery throughout your home. It also gives you unmatched comfort and more consistent temperatures, like the heart of your home.
  • Low E Argon windows: These windows create less condensation and reflect sunlight away in the summer while keeping heat in during the winter.

  • Sealed ductwork.Your homes’ heating and air conditioning will flow more efficiently through the home, reducing heat and cooling loss and making for a more comfortable living space.
